Copper taken from dozens of schools' HVAC units
News

LEE COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Deputies are investigating after dozens of HVAC units at some Lee County schools were stolen or stripped of copper tubing and wiring.

According to Lee County Sheriff Daniel Simon, about 60 HVAC units owned by the Lee County School District have been stolen or vandalized since the end of November.

Three A/C units that were outside of the Mount Pleasant school in
Elliott were stolen near the end of November. Then, a school district
maintenance man discovered about 30 HVAC units on top of the school that were
stripped of their copper tubing and wiring.

Around the same time, the district
discovered several more units at Fleming Middle School in Lynchburg that were stripped of copper parts.

Simon says investigators do not have any suspects and don't have an exact
timeframe of when the thefts happened.

Because the schools were closed
last year because of consolidation, the buildings were empty. The
units, according to Simon, were in perfect working condition.

If you have any information about the thefts, you are urged to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
